Even after our teacher training and summer courses are over, there is still more to learn. Professional development continues throughout our careers. I have seen teachers who are only a few months away from retirement, eagerly taking part in discussions to design new projects. Some plan that upon retirement they will go back to school and take courses that were not available when they were starting their careers. Teachers are also learners their entire lives. . . . (excerpt from To Emma, For the Love of Teaching) Who has inspired me by their writing or speaking? Who do I remember causing me to think, "that person is inside my head and speaks for me"? Who would I want to stand beside on a stage and feel, by some form of intellectual osmosis, that we were of one mind in our vision of education? (excerpt from To Emma, For the Love of Teaching) To Emma, for the love of teaching contains delightful vignettes of teaching and living. Each concludes with an invitation to the reader to consider her or his own personal responses and thoughts and write them down in this "reflective journal." Join Sheila D. Rose C.M., Ph.D., a longtime teacher on a journey of discovery about what it means to be an educator. |
